She held the mask close to her skin, as if that would bring him back. Many nights she tried, but it was all the same. All in vain. No matter how hard she tried or wished or hoped, he was still gone and nothing would bring him back. The only thing she had left to cling to was the memories.

She longed for those warm nights they spent together. The way his body felt against hers. The way his kisses felt against her lips. She could almost still feel his body next to hers, his hands all over her, his touch.

in silent moments imagine you'd be here

But those nights when they were the Painted Lady and Blue Spirit had long disappeared.  They left when he left. Now all she had was a mask to remind herself of pain she felt. No matter how many times she tried to be just the Painted Lady, she couldn't. She ended up curling up in his bedroom, holding his mask. The last thing he touched. Because it reminded her of him. Because she could still feel him when she held the mask. She could still see his face smiling at her. And even if she cried herself to sleep from missing him, seeing his face was the best thing she could ask for.

She loved him. It was as simple as that and as complicated as that. And she would always love him, even if she had to wait until the spirit world to see him once again, she would wait. After all, the painted lady and blue spirit had always been lovers. A death wouldn't change that.
